Sessions Notes 6.5.25 // Recoechi + femdot try to slow things down on "Giant Leaps"
Sometimes you just gotta pause, look around, and ask yourself, "what f**k we doing?"
The phrase has been in my head a lot lately because it's the foundation of Recoechi's new record, "Giant Leaps".
The song hits immediately, and makes me remember my 20's, running the blog rubyhornet and DJing almost nightly, doing any and everything while asking myself constantly when it would all pay off.
I ask it routinely running Closed Sessions, and I find the phrase running through my head daily chasing toddlers around - especially after my wife puts together an elaborate art project or scavenger hunt - only to have the kids spend more time playing with the box or ignore the activity completely.
Sometimes the rat race feels like a treadmill, and that's the urgency communicated on Recoechi's new song, "Giant Leaps". This is a clear picture of an artist trying to do enough without doing "the most". You can hear his passion and desire to be heard. Sonically it is world's away from 50 Cent's "Patiently Waiting", but thematically, it's right on par - with femdot standing in for Eminem as an older, more established, yet still hungry running mate. The production from Renzell (with an assist from Lonzo), helps drive the song and feelings of aspiration.
"Giant Leaps" is the first single from Recoechi's debut LP, FLAVAZ, which will release on August 14th. It's an amazing album that we can wait to share. For now, enjoy the first single and please tell a friend.
