Kipp Stone: I Ain't Want Nothin'

It's been two years since Kipp Stone released an album - well, almost two years. 66689 BLVD Prequel was released in September of 2023. It garnered a high Pitchfork review, some of EOY nods, a White Sox activation, and saw Kipp hit the road with The Armed. It was a heavy lift with an in-depth concept. The album and packaging was meticulously put together with original artwork and character development with the immensely talented graphic artist, Jack Olevitch. It took Kipp's career to some new heights, and then also left him incredibly drained.

I AIn't Want Nothin', his new album that is out today,  exists in some ways as the only natural follow-up. The 9 new songs ditch any kind of uniform structure and feel light compared the weight of Kipp's last LP. The songs reflect an overall societal trend towards cynicism and "alright, buddy," status. On I Ain't Want Nothin' Kipp comes to terms with his status as an underground artist on "Thuggin" with the sobering yet playfully delivered verse-ender, "I been a favorite on every list, minor or major, don't make a difference, still made enough to be broke as shit." On "Jobs Be Trash 2", he raps, "came off tour to the unemployment line..."

The title of the LP comes from idea of calling someone just to check in, "yo, what's up? I don't want nothing, just seeing what's good..."
It's almost as if Kipp recognizes that he doesn't have a large concept or deeper meaning here, it's just an update on his life and he's bringing the same optimistic-fatigue that you and I, and many others share in 2025.
Except, Kipp can rap his ass off and he fucking shines on beats by Latvian producer IK-EY, who handled 6 of the album's 9 songs. Amarah contributed to stand-out "P.I.P.O." while Kipp took the wheel on "Rap Game Bob Ross" and "Eddy Road Flow".
We're very prod to release I Ain't Want Nothin' into the world today. It's a perfect album for these days and times. And if you're a head like me, you may feel vibes of Evidence's Unlearning Vol. 1 and Yasiin Bey's "The Ecstatic". Then again, you may not.
Hit play and tell a friend.
